The coronavirus pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges, fear and uncertainty on a global scale. As a local charity working with terminally ill people and their families, we know that our patients are some of the most vulnerable to the threat of coronavirus and that our medical, clinical and counselling teams are the front line of the expert care they need.
The closure of our 22 shops and the cancellation of some of our biggest fundraising events meant that just as the demand for our care increased our income fell dramatically. Potentially resulting in a loss of almost £2 million this year alone.
We launched our Covid-19 Emergency Appeal soon after lockdown on 6 April 2020, and the response has been absolutely incredible. To date over £300,000 has been raised!
The response from our community is an overwhelming show of love and support for the work of Thames Hospice, for which we are so grateful. Support has come from individuals, businesses, Charitable Trusts, and groups of friends or neighbours coming together 'virtually' to fundraise across Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire. We also received hundreds of messages of support and encouragement.
It is not too late to donate to our appeal, as the work continues and demand for our care grows every day. Just the cost of all the PPE we need each week to keep our nurses, doctors and patients safe is so significant. Please click here to donate.
We are truly amazed and humbled by the love for Thames Hospice in our community. On behalf of our staff, patients and their loved ones, thank you so much.
